2007 Holiday Series - Race 1

Saturday was the first of the holiday series of runs and with the hot conditions the long course was shortened considerably, so much that it was barely longer than the short course.

This suited the runners off the early handicaps and the finish order was almost exactly the start order as the Dom Calabria, Arun Tiwari and Robyn McKenzie group lead from start to finish to get line honours.

They also shared the honours of 'most sociable' with the twelve minute group under the captaincy of Tracey Josling which had only one upstart making a break on his own. 

Meanwhile, the short course were all out there as individuals without much teamwork - it takes time for the young and inexperienced to develop the skill to run together, and they have plenty of time. 

Maybe Glen Rosato had to punish his body for too much partying and as he set a high pace in the heat for first over the line with the fastest time of 15:02 for the 3.1km. 

Never-say-easy Nick Altin was second, and Sandra Altin was a respectful number of paces behind him in third. 

The Holiday Series are designed to be less competitive, runners setting off in two minute grouping for the long course, and the aim is to stay with the group and be sociable, and maybe have a chat. 

Miscreants will be rewarded with promotions and relegations to the next group. 

Distances will vary depending on the weather conditions of the day - less on hot days and further if it is cool - and younger or less experienced runners are encouraged to stay home in extreme heat.
