2007 Holiday Series - Race 3

On a hot Saturday a short run was organised for the Griffith Joggers on Scenic Hill, and this gave the early starters an advantage which they quickly recognised and eagerly took, further aided by a late cooler change.

Terry Potroz off six minutes took his first win in a long while, or maybe it was his first of all time, a narrow win with Vrinda Tiwari off four minutes close behind, and Arun Tiwari off zero just around the corner  in third.

Ron Anson was next and not far behind his six minute fellow starter, and then came the rampaging Tarek Heiland again claiming the fastest time of 16:53 for the 4.5km.

Well off that pace but taking the holiday prize as the most sociable group was the fourteen minute starters who claimed most of the placings from twenty to thirty and were spread by only about thirty seconds at the line - a good achievement  by that group.

Hard luck to the group of three off twelve minutes who went right instead of left and discovered just how much of a difference that small detail can make, but the positive is that they stuck together and will be fitter for the extra distance.

No amount of coaxing or suggestion can get the short course runners to be sociable, it's hell for leather, everyone for themselves, and this week a few of the regulars had some extra energy given that there was no cricket that day for them.

Devansh Tiwari was flying  - there must have been something extra in the Tiwari household  this week - to claim first place and hold the record for this series, but only briefly until Ben Potroz came in second, starting two minutes back and closing fast.

Potroz time was 12:08 for the 3.1km and then Glen Rosato, Mitchell Forrest and Simon Croce in quick succession, also put in quick times.

Other notable efforts were from Michael Cimador who sacrificed his own glory to show his visitor from Italy the highlights of the Joggers course, and Jane Rudgley, although not a newcomer, making her first solo appearance without needing her children as an excuse for being there.

There are just two more of the Holiday Series of runs before the competition starts again on the first Saturday of February .

All runners should take it easy on the course in the hot weather, walking if necessary, and younger or less experienced runners are encouraged to stay home in extreme heat.
