2008 Exies Bacchus Competition - Race 5

Race 5 of the Exies Bacchus Competition proved to be very interesting with two of the usual long course competitors giving a very good explanation as to why the short course is now the option. Sheila Marcus and Maria Sergi announcing another two ferals are on the way. Congratulations to them and their families.

The long course was again light on with only 28 competitors. David Slattery is out in front of the Wardle Waddle with John Dodd and Ian Forrest being absent this week.

The mass start proved to be very popular and successful with results unknown until the handicapper could get to the computer.

Matt Trounce was first across the line and recorded the fastest time to take a positive into this weeks Six Foot Track, fellow long time tracker Teresa Burgess also put in a good run to finish fourth.

On handicap time the winner was Nicole Restagno ahead of Matt Trounce, Keith McDonald(running very well), Teresa Burgess, Brian Bellicanta, Graeme Lyons, Tracy Josling, Nicole Dehnert, Lena Sergi and Wendy Minato in tenth.

Interesting to note that six of the top ten were females. The Exies Bacchus will be very hotly contested it would seem.

The short course was a race to the first corner with the young runners eagerly lining up in front and the more mature not wanting to be trampled opting for the back of the pack.

Zac Trounce took out the short course this week followed by Liam Blanch and Jacob Depaoli.

The mass start makes it harder for the runners to know where they are up to with no bench mark to gauge position and this is reflected in some of the times.

Next week is the trial Exies Bacchus around the Lake with a choice of the 10km or 5km. Start time is 5.30pm at the Picnic Area and again a mass start so don’t be late.
