2010 Surfer Competition - Race 3

Whoosh! Was the sound made by the Feral Joggers at Race Three of the Surfer Competition, it was a popular turn out with over 100 punters.

Race Three was filled with drama from new runners redesigning the course map and injuries mixing up the points tally.

Mirella Granata holds on to first place of the Competition at this early stage by the skin of her teeth with Glenys Greenway a joggers tooth behind.

Race honors in the long course went to newcomer Matthew Ross who overtook the front pack fairly early on to win the big points.

Junior jogger Rebecca Kennedy sprinted it out against Dianne Keenan for places two and three, Keenan’s intense City to Surf training is paying off and she will be one to watch in upcoming races.

The rest of the top ten featured regulars Maria Sergi, Sheila Marcus, Fiona Favero, Gerald Yuen, Lyn Potter, Tony Gullo, and Jim Salvestro who have proved that consistency pays off in the long run.

The final stretch home along the back of Wood road proved to be an ordeal for Dianna Slattery who took a tumble, and a maze for newcomer Sarah who took a wrong turn, maybe she thought she’d get some extra training in?

David Slattery advances to the lead of The Wardle Waddle just a head of Adam Johnson and Janet Mazzarolo, this should be an interesting battle throughout the Jogger Year.

Fletcher Josling flew home ahead of Daisy Croce’s very quick run in the short course, third place was Abbey Josling.

Podium places went to those Feral Juniors who have watched their parents blitz the courses over the years.

Well done to David Alpen who was the quickest runner in the long course running the 6.6 km in 25 minutes, and Josling for the super effort of 12:33 for the 3.1km course.
