2007 Hotfoot Competition - Race 6

Saturday, 15 December 2007

It was close racing again for the Griffith Joggers on Scenic Hill on Saturday as the first thirty of the forty strong field crosses the finish line in the space of just two minutes, lead home by current Winter Competition trophy holder David Huxley.

Huxley has only finished three of the six races in this competition but has been well up there in each of those, so he must be still putting in the kilometres on his own.

Second place went to Fletcher Josling just four seconds in arrears, a regular short course runner who decided to have a go at the long, and could have done better but "… had to keep stopping to as for directions".

Rebecca Rosato was third and has been getting quicker each week.

With one race to go, the competition pointscore is all but decided with Tony Gullo slashing another 45 seconds off his time to get another top ten placing and putting him firmly in the lead - only a dnf from him and a high placing from Tarek Heiland next week can lose him the trophy.

Heiland set the fastest time with 23:19 for the 6.7km track, a little off his best, to get a midfield placing.

Steven Graham ran thirty seconds quicker to be fourth, while Adam Rudgley took time out from setting short course records to have a go at the long course and took fifth place with an enviable 25:11.

Also running well were Trent Rosato who was back to a happy time after a couple of nasty weeks, and Anthony Trefilo who seems to actually be enjoying the long course despite all protestations.

Just out of the top ten, Matthew Calabria made his regular pilgrimage from Singapore to spent Christmas with the Ferals on Scenic Hill, and seemed not to notice the heat.

Out of the running for prizes, the nineteen minute group of Teresa Burgess, Tony Moers, David Alpen and Graeme Lyons took the vote as the most sociable, supporting each other all the way and finishing just a few seconds apart, as did Ben Chopping and Paul Muir off eighteen minutes, once they had been so rudely left standing by the winner Huxley.

The short course saw a bunch of new faces on the podium lead by Greg Evans with day light second, and it was noted by the Joggers that this was Evans first time on the hill without the use of his children as an excuse, all agreeing "He's hooked" .

New faces Robyn Delves and Jana Salvestro took second and third with very respectable times which indicate they may have more than jogging up their sleeves.

Also running well and setting quick times were Emma Slattery, Sandra Altin, Alex Forrest, Ben and Will Lyons, and Julia Fattore who was also appreciated for stepping forward to help out the understaffed timing team at the finish.

The Joggers run from the water tower opposite Pioneer Park at 5:30pm with your choice of long and short courses of 6.7km and 3.3km on the tracks of Scenic Hill, and one more run on the current course before the start of the non-competition holiday series.
