2007 Hotfoot Competition - Race 7
Saturday, 22 December 2007
Unusual for this time of the year was the lower temperature and the higher pace at the Griffith Joggers run on Scenic Hill on Saturday
With clean and cool air in the lungs, and a fast track thanks to the rain, most of the joggers recorded personal best times or close to it.
Trent Rosato was full of confidence given the cooler weather to lead the field home, complete the course in two and a half minutes quicker than before, and rocket up the pointscore table to fourth.
But nothing could stoop Tony Gullo from completing his competition win with ease - no dnf here - and Gullo is the 2007 Hotfoot champion.
His midfield placing might have looked like a cake walk, but he still equalled his best time on the course.
Second and third across the line were Louise and Karren Strachan who are both still looking well within their comfort range despite personal best times, and they are definites to go quicker yet.
Also enjoying the conditions to set new times were Glen Rosato fourth, Lorna Tyrrell fifth holding off a late challenge from visiting daughter Danielle in sixth, Janet Mazzarolo, Maria Sergi, Tony DelGigante and John Dodd rounding the top ten, but there were more pb's further back down the field.
At fifteenth place Ben Potroz claimed a pb and the honour of fastest time of the day with his 25:32 for the 6.7 kilometres, also one of the fastest times of the competition series.
David Ottrey and his cheerful face will be missed by the Joggers as he completed his last run with the club before leaving town for Bendigo where he reassures us there is also a keen running group.
Ottrey's Griffith career had its ups and downs but he always came back for another run despite the obstacles, and he was always keen to try out a new big event.
The short course competitors also ran like the clappers and set pb's all over the hill, lead home by Sophie Slattery who was almost a minute quicker over the 3.3km course.
Second placed Anita Cimador completed her first run for many months, and at third Anthony Trefilo set the fastest time of the day with 11:43 which shows he is consistent as he has set exactly that time twice before.
Next week is the beginning of the Holiday Series which are designed to be less competitive, runners setting off in two minute grouping for the long course, and the aim is to stay with the group and be sociable, and maybe have a chat.
Miscreants will be rewarded or punished with promotions and relegations to the next group.
Distances will vary depending on the weather conditions of the day - less on hot days and further if it is cool - and younger or less experienced runners are encouraged to stay home in extreme heat.
The Joggers run from the water tower opposite Pioneer Park at 5:30pm with your choice of long and short courses on the tracks of Scenic Hill.
